The Eastern Cape Provincial Legislature will host a Youth Parliament on Thursday, 25 June 2026, bringing together young people from across the province to deliberate on issues affecting the youth. The sectoral parliament will convene under the theme: “Celebrating 30 Years of our Constitution: A Conscientised Youth Advancing an Inclusive Economy and Ending Gender-Based Violence on the 50th Anniversary of the 1976 Uprising.”
The Legislature is convening this sitting in collaboration with the South African Youth Council (SAYC) to provide a platform for meaningful dialogue between youth representatives and members of the provincial legislature on matters impacting young people.
The programme will also enable participants and delegates identified by youth constituencies across the province to propose policy solutions and secure concrete commitments from government.This initiative represents a vital platform for empowering youth, strengthening participatory democracy and fostering meaningful engagement between young people and government.
The Premier of the Eastern Cape, Hon. Lubabalo Oscar Mabuyane, and the Executive Chairperson of the National Youth Development Agency, Dr Sunshine Minenhle Myende, are expected to provide key inputs as part of the session.
The Youth Parliament will bring together members of the provincial legislature, members of the executive council, representatives from the National Youth Development Agency (NYDA), SAYC, higher education institutions, youth development agencies, traditional youth formations, youth in business and business chambers, as well as youth-focused non-governmental organisations and other relevant stakeholders.
These stakeholders play a critical role in advancing the welfare and development of young people.The programme is scheduled as follows:
