The Mbhashe Local Municipality Executive Mayor, Cllr Samkelo Janda recently handed over and officially opened the refurbished Dutywa Town Hall. The objective of the refurbishment was to revitalize the Town Hall, ensuring it meets modern standards while maintaining its cultural and architectural heritage.
The Hall has office space, public ablution facilities, guard house, Jojo tanks and a boardroom among other facilities. As part of job creation efforts, a total of 20 people were employed during the course of the project.
Speaking on behalf of the Ratepayers, Ms Nonceba Klaas commended the municipality on the work done and welcomed the project. “The municipality continues to restore the dignity of its citizens through service delivery, we will now be able to host our events and ceremonies”, said Klaas.
Cllr Janda emphasised the importance of preserving and restoring our heritage sites. “We will continue working and ensuring the refurbishing of our heritage sites and community facilities, soon we will be working towards face lifting the Willowvalle Town Hall,” said Cllr Janda.
He appealed to senior management to ensure the facilities are maintained and they are beautified.
“Such facilities are also a return on investment as we have to ensure that we collect revenue through hall hiring and the usage of the public ablution facilities.”
The Executive Mayor called on the community to ensure they safeguard the municipal facilities against vandalism and theft.
The initial scope of work included:
• Repairs & Refurbishment of the Town hall – (including stage & lights, upgrading of electrical connection with Eskom)
• Construction of new public ablution facility
• Refurbishment of existing public ablution facility
• Refurbishment of Guard house
• Construction of watch tower
• Construction new paving for drive-away & parking area
• Developing of landscaping
• Installation of New Clear-vu fence
• Construction of pergola structure
• Installation of water tanks
• Repairs and upgrading of plumbing.
• Installation of streetlight within the yard
• Installation of external downlight surrounding the building
• Installation of coin collector machine to public ablution
• Installation of water pumps
