As part of its efforts to empower local entrepreneurs and strengthen informal trading businesses, the Executive Mayor  of Mbhashe Local Municipality, Dr Samkelo Janda, officially handed over 20 vouchers to Dutywa hawkers at the TRC Hall. These vouchers are intended to help boost and sustain their small businesses.

During the handover session, the Executive Mayor encouraged the beneficiaries and other informal traders to actively participate in Integrated Development Plan (IDP) roadshows, emphasizing the importance of their input on how they would like to be supported as hawkers. “Your views are very important because we are a government of the people,” he said.

The municipality supports informal trading businesses every financial year through this programme, which is aimed at improving the sustainability of informal traders and enabling them to better provide for their households.

One of the beneficiaries, Nomvuyo Dlamini from the Dutywa Hawkers Association, expressed her gratitude to Mbhashe Local Municipality. “I am very happy to have received a voucher, as it will assist me in boosting my business. Thank you to Mbhashe Local Municipality for supporting us through this initiative,” Dlamini said.
