For many rural communities in the O.R. Tambo District, water has often meant long walks to rivers and streams. The Ntsonyini\u2013Ngqongweni Regional Water Supply Scheme is part of the work underway to change that reality.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"x14z9mp xat24cr x1lziwak x1vvkbs xtlvy1s x126k92a\">\n<div dir=\"auto\">Once completed, the scheme is expected to provide safe, treated drinking water to approximately 190 000 people across more than 220 communities in the Nyandeni and Port St Johns Local Municipalities.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">Raw water will be abstracted from the uMzimvubu River and conveyed through a modern infrastructure system designed to move water reliably from source to tap.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"x14z9mp xat24cr x1lziwak x1vvkbs xtlvy1s x126k92a\">\n<div dir=\"auto\">The programme includes the construction of a 15 megalitre-per-day Water Treatment Works, supported by abstraction works, an off-channel storage dam, rising main pipelines, booster pump stations and a command reservoir.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"x14z9mp xat24cr x1lziwak x1vvkbs xtlvy1s x126k92a\">\n<div dir=\"auto\">An extensive bulk pipeline network and service reservoirs will distribute treated water to villages across the project area.With an investment of approximately R357 million, the Ntsonyini\u2013Ngqongweni scheme forms part\u00a0 of the O.R.
