Dr AB Xuma Local Municipality<\/span><\/b><\/a>, in partnership with the Government Communication and Information System [GCIS] \u2013 Eastern Cape, hosted the Love Your Street Clean-Up Activation and Awareness Programme at Heroes Park this week.<\/p>\nThe initiative brought together the Department of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment, the Department of Economic Development, Environmental Affairs and Tourism, Chris Hani District Municipality, the Diocese of Mbhashe Mothers\u2019 Union, the Community Work Programme [CWP] and members of the community in a shared commitment to creating a cleaner and healthier environment.<\/p>\n
The programme commenced with a clean-up campaign in the Ngcobo CBD, followed by an awareness session and a tree-planting activity at Heroes Park.According to organisers, the Love Your Street initiative seeks to raise awareness of significant milestones in South Africa\u2019s democratic history while encouraging active citizenship and collective responsibility in protecting and preserving public spaces.<\/p>\n
