The waste bin handover programme concluded successfully at JS Skenjana, Mida Primary and Senior Secondary Schools, where the Executive Mayor, Dr Samkelo Janda, officially handed over waste bins as part of the municipality\u2019s efforts to promote sustainable waste management and cleaner school environments.<\/p>\n
The programme began earlier in the day at Zweliwelile Senior Secondary School and Ngubethole Bam Primary School, reaching learners and educators across the participating schools.<\/p>\n
Addressing learners and teachers, Executive Mayor Dr Samkelo Janda emphasised the importance of waste separation at source and responsible environmental practices.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are here to talk about the preservation of our environment through proper waste management. Waste must be separated so that waste pickers can easily collect and sell recyclable materials.\u201d<\/p>\n
The Executive Mayor further encouraged learners to make responsible choices and stay away from faction fights and illegal activities, warning that such behaviour could have serious consequences for their education and future opportunities .<\/p>\n
The initiative is aimed at instilling lifelong, environmentally responsible habits among learners and encouraging communities to take greater responsibility for keeping their surroundings clean.<\/p>\n
The principal of Zweliwelile Senior Secondary School, Mr Khwezi Mjindi, welcomed the initiative and expressed appreciation for the municipality’s intervention.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are pleased and thankful for these waste bins. We welcome this initiative and promise to play our part in supporting it.\u201d<\/p>\n
The programme concluded with the participating schools committing to supporting proper waste segregation and maintaining cleaner, healthier and more sustainable learning environments.<\/p>\n
