Buffalo City Metropolitan Municipality recently welcomed the South African Navy (SAN) to the City as they celebrate the World Hydrography Day in the City on June 21.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
The World Hydrography Day is designed to raise awareness about hydrography and how it plays a role in improved knowledge of the seas and oceans.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
The Navy was led by Chief of Navy Vice Admiral Monde Lobese and other senior Navy personnel.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

BCMM Speaker Cllr Humphrey Maxhegwana, Chief Whip Nozandile Mhlola and City Manager Mxolisi Yawa also attended the welcoming.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Welcoming the Navy, Executive Mayor Cllr Princess Faku said it was an honour for BCMM to be chosen as hosts for this year\u2019s event. Close to 2000 Navy personnel will officially be in East London till the 22nd of this month.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

\u201cYour visit to our City comes at the time that learners are starting to show interest in Maritime studies.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
\u201cTruly, the Eastern Cape has made strides in developing and teaching maritime sciences in a number of high schools across the province.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
\u201cSo fortunate is that one of those schools is here in our Buffalo City Metropolitan Municipality, that is Ngwenyathi High in rural Nxaruni,\u201d said the Executive Mayor.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
Ngwenyathi school provides students with foundational knowledge and skills for careers in the maritime and shipping sectors.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
\u201cThanks to the South African Maritime Safety Authority for identifying Ngwenyathi school to be part of such schools.\u201d<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Executive Mayor said the Right of Entry Parade by the Navy must be a lasting one for BCMM young people for decades to come.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
