{"id":622,"date":"2025-10-11T05:16:05","date_gmt":"2025-10-11T05:16:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ecmessenger.co.za\/?p=622"},"modified":"2025-10-11T05:20:55","modified_gmt":"2025-10-11T05:20:55","slug":"its-all-systems-go-ahead-of-the-engcobo-mall-construction","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ecmessenger.co.za\/index.php\/2025\/10\/11\/its-all-systems-go-ahead-of-the-engcobo-mall-construction\/","title":{"rendered":"It\u2019s all systems go ahead of the eNgcobo Mall construction"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Engcobo<\/p>\n<p>By Staff Reporter<\/p>\n<p>A recent sod turning event for the much-anticipated eNgcobo Mall has been viewed by local business pundits as a transformative chapter in the economic and social development of this small Eastern Cape dorpie. \u00a0The Mall, orchestrated by Dr AB Xuma Local Municipality and championed by Dr. Sisa Ngebulana\u2019s Billion Group is valued at R200 million and will surely provide the much-needed economic face lift for the town.<\/p>\n<p>The project is set to bring far-reaching benefits to the local community, including job creation, SMME development, economic growth and expanded retail access, all while positioning Ngcobo as an emerging hub for future infrastructure investment.<\/p>\n<p>Addressing the sod-turning event, Dr. Sisa Ngebulana gave insight into the gigantic development that is scheduled to house 41 tenants, with 34 spaces already secured by a mix of international brands and established local businesses.<\/p>\n<p>Said Ngebulana, \u201cThe project is poised to create over 1 000 jobs during the construction phase, with an estimated 600 permanent positions once the mall becomes operational.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt also offers an opportunity for the town\u2019s economy to grow in leaps and bounds much to the benefit of the local population and that of the surrounding towns.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>According to Ngebulana, Earthworks are scheduled to begin before the end of October 2025, with construction officially commencing in February 2026. The mall is expected to open its doors in April 2027.<\/p>\n<p>At the ceremony, Hon. Mayor Cllr Siyabulela Zangqa, who was in his usual element, hailed the broader socio-economic impact of the mall.<\/p>\n<p>Said Zanqga,\u201d The Engcobo Mall promises to be a catalyst for inclusive economic growth, local empowerment and infrastructure expansion, ushering in a new era of development for the town with local partnerships meant to ensure local beneficiation.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>According to Cllr. Zanqga, the construction of the Mall is not an isolated project, as the town has already seen other huge infrastructure projects, which include the rehabilitation of the R61 road between Nkondlo and All Saints, the state-of-the-art Waste Water Treatment Works currently under construction, and the scheduled construction of the R 1.7 billion Caca Dam that is envisaged to nip in the bud the persistent water shortages in the area.<\/p>\n<p>Amongst those who graced the event included Cllr. Lusanda Sizani, the Executive Mayor of the Chris Hani District Municipality, Cllr. Mandilakhe Kondile, the Speaker at Dr. AB Xuma Local Municipality, Mr. Macingwane, NAFCOC President, Taxi Associations, representatives from Amaqwathi Royal House, All Saints Community Trust and Engcobo Business Forum.<\/p>\n<p>Cllr. Lusanda Sizani congratulated the partners in the mall development initiative for making sure that it becomes a reality after it faced daunting challenges during its early stages. He further thanked the Billion group for making sure that this Ngcobo Mall dream becomes a reality.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking on behalf of Engcobo Business Forum, Zolani Faleni said that the Town\u2019s small businesses should be at the center of this development.
