The Executive Mayor of Joe Gqabi District Municipality (JGDM), Councillor Nomvuyo Mposelwa, has expressed profound shock, sorrow, and outrage at the brutal killing of Ms Noxolo Nyeke, a Special Programmes Unit (SPU) Officer for Gender, Persons with Disabilities, together with an Elderly citizen at Elundini Local Municipality.<\/p>\n
Nyeke, born in 1986, was tragically shot and killed late on Saturday, 14 February 2026, in Katlehong, Tlokoeng. In this horrific attack, her mother also lost her life, while her 15-year-old son survived the shooting and is currently receiving care and support. The perpetrator remains at large, and no arrests have been made yet as investigations continue.<\/p>\n
Cllr Mposelwa has strongly condemned this senseless act of violence, describing it as a devastating loss not only to the Nyeke family but to the entire Joe Gqabi District community.<\/p>\n
“We are deeply saddened and angered by the brutal killing of Noxolo Nyeke, a dedicated public servant who committed more than 15 years of her life to serving the people of Elundini. Her work in championing the rights and dignity of women, persons with disabilities, and the elderly made her a pillar of compassion and advocacy in our communities. This act of violence is a direct attack on the values of humanity, service, and justice that she stood for,” she expressed.<\/p>\n
The Executive Mayor has called on law enforcement agencies to intensify their investigations and ensure that those responsible are swiftly brought to justice. She further urged community members to cooperate with authorities by providing any information that may assist in apprehending the perpetrator.<\/p>\n
“We cannot allow our communities to be terrorised by criminality. Justice must prevail. We call on anyone with information to come forward so that the family may find closure and our communities may feel safe again,” she said.<\/p>\n
The funeral service for Ms Nyeke will take place on 28 February 2026 in Luxeni Village, Tlokoeng. The municipality will join the community in paying final respects to a committed servant of the people.<\/p>\n
