Comrade Lusanda Sizani, the ANC Chris Hani Chairperson, delivered a heartfelt eulogy at Comrade Xoliseka Lali’s funeral, highlighting his exceptional leadership qualities. The late comrade Lali, who was the Portfolio Head for Infrastructure Development and Human Settlement and also served as Emalahleni Municipality Whip of the council, was gunned down in Komani on 22 July 2025.
At the funeral Sizani spoke on the importance of leaders being able to guide and inspire others, both in times of prosperity and adversity. He commended Comrade Lali for his integrity, noting that he stood firm in his convictions and fought against corruption.
Comrade Sizani also stressed the need for comrades to be aware of each other’s political backgrounds and motivations, to ensure that those who join the political space are genuinely committed to serving the people and the country, rather than pursuing personal gain.
In his tribute, Sizani celebrated Lali’s dedication to the struggle and his legacy, which will continue to inspire others. He honored his memory, acknowledging the impact he had on the ANC.
Meanwhile, the ANC in the province said in a statement. “This solemn occasion serves as a testament to the significant impact Comrade Lali had on the party and the community he served. As a respected member of the Regional Executive Committee (REC) in the Chris Hani Region, Comrade Lali’s dedication to the ANC’s values and principles was evident in his tireless efforts to advance the interests of the people.
“The funeral service is not just a celebration of Comrade Lali’s life and achievements but also a moment for his family, fellow comrades, and colleagues to find solace and comfort in the midst of grief. As they gather to console one another, they take comfort in the knowledge that Comrade Lali’s legacy will live on, inspiring others to continue his work and serve with dedication and passion.
“The ANC’s presence at the funeral shows the party’s commitment to honoring its members who have made significant contributions to the struggle for freedom and the ongoing quest for social justice. As the community lays Comrade Lali to rest, they do so with the hope that his memory will continue to inspire future generations to work towards a better South Africa.”
Also at the funeral ANC REC member, Comrade Xola Nqola spoke on Comrade Xoliseka Lali’s commitment to public service, his impact on the community, and the many roles he played.
Apostle Matshaya conveyed a message with compassion and empathy written to the family by the Provincial Chairperson, Comrade Lubabalo Oscar Mabuyane. Apostle Matshaya also shared a few words of devotion to the family encouraging them to stand strong in this difficult time.
