The Department of Sport, Recreation, Arts and Culture (DSRAC) successfully hosted a three-day Pottery Manufacturing Workshop at the Emalahleni Art Centre.
The workshop forms part of DSRAC’s annual skills development programme aimed at preserving heritage crafts while creating economic opportunities that positively impact the socio-economic environment. Through the programme, participants gained practical skills in pottery manufacturing, empowering them to explore entrepreneurship and contribute to local economic development.
One of the participants, Ms Nosipho Kalolo, expressed heartfelt gratitude for the training and the opportunities it presents.
“We are so grateful to be getting this skill. Our wish is to be supported with clay and materials so we can continue manufacturing these pottery items and turn this into a business,” she said.
The workshop highlights the importance of skills development in empowering communities, preserving cultural heritage and creating sustainable livelihoods through the creative arts sector.
