Bhisho
The Eastern Cape Provincial Legislature will host a Women’s Parliament on Friday, 28 August 2026 in Bhisho, under the theme: “From the Dompass to Power: Marching On to Sustainable Women’s Emancipation on the 70th Anniversary of the 1956 Women’s March and the 72nd Commemoration of the 1954 Women’s Charter.”
This Sectoral Parliament is a platform created by the Legislature to promote public participation and empower women to engage directly with policymakers on issues affecting their lives. This year’s Women’s Parliament seeks to honour the legacy of the 1956 Women’s March, while advancing conversations on gender equality, women’s empowerment, economic inclusion, and the fight against Gender-Based Violence and Femicide.
The programme which will be attended by the Premier of the Eastern Cape Province, will bring together approximately 450 participants and key stakeholders, including Members of the Provincial Legislature, MECs, women representatives from all Districts and Metropolitan Municipalities across the province, government representatives, civil society organisations, traditional leaders, women in business, women formations, and young women leaders.
